CGRA Community Sailing FleetDescriptions of the boats used in the CGRA Community Sailing Program: Optimist PramThe Optimist Pram ("Opti") is an 8-foot pram used in youth sailing programs throughout the world. The Opti's flat bottom and high sides make it a stable and secure boat for youngsters and beginning sailors. Here's a picture of an Opti. O'pen BicThe O'pen Bic dinghy is a modern, high performance dinghy that's perfect for kids looking for a fun, fast, wet ride. The 9-foot Bic is capable of planing and very easy to bring up after a capsize. Take a look at one here. LaserThe 14-foot Laser is the world's largest one-design sailboat and the Olympic singlehanded class for men and women. The Laser can be modified with three different sized rigs (Full, Radial, and 4.7), enabling a skipper to match the sail area to his or her size and skill. To see a Laser, click here. Club 420The Club 420 is a 14-foot sloop-rigged (jib and mainsail) dinghy designed to be sailed by two. Lively, yet stable, it is very popular for learn-to-sail programs and widely sailed in high school and collegiate competition. Click here to take a look. |
