2011 WIND Youth Clinic
"Creating Future Generations of Champions"
July 12-14, 2011
WIND Youth Clinic is a comprehensive training clinic for young sailors ages 13-18 interested in developing the skills to compete at a high level. Participation is open to Laser, Laser Radial, and Laser 4.7 sailors. Coached by an accomplished staff of champion sailors, this immersion program will focus on performance sail trim, tactics and boat-handling in classroom and on-the-water sessions. Coaches will also familiarize sailors with the ins and outs of pursuing a National or Olympic campaign, including time and money management, travel and personal commitment.
All clinic applicants are required to submit a sailing resume with registration. Coaches will review all resumes and tailor the event to the ability of the participants.
WIND Clinic participants are invited to stick around and sail the following weekend in the annual WIND/Northwest Youth Racing Circuit Regatta, also hosted by CGRA (separate registration).
Please note: All youth sailors must be accompanied by a parent or chaperone.
The clinic is held in the Marine Park at Cascade Locks, Oregon, in the heart of the famous Columbia River Gorge. Cascade Locks presents a spectacular venue with steady winds, warm conditions, and plenty to do on and off the water. Families can enjoy hiking, biking, windsurfing, golf, or they can tour the towns in the area. Accommodations of all sorts are available, including camping within walking distance, or plenty of comfortable hotels. The Gorge is truly a great adventure for all.
Every day will begin at 8 am with calisthenics & stretching at the beach followed by a short chalk talk prior to going on the water for morning drills. We'll take a break around noon for lunch and chalk talk on the beach before returning to the water for another round of drills. We're usually off the water by 4 pm for snacks and a final review before dinner. Come prepared for an intensive sailing and learning experience!
