Coach: Brett Davis

Brett Davis coaches elite-level youths and Olympic-caliber sailors who are highly motivated and goal-oriented.
He is known for his patient, productive and skillful coaching style, which is crucial for developing sailors, both on and off the water. An excellent role model to the young sailors he coaches, Davis was awarded the 2008 Developmental Coach of the Year by US Sailing for his work with the US Sailing Team. Brett is an accomplished Laser sailor and his accomplishments include US Youth Single Handed Champion, Collegiate All-American at Harvard, 5 time member US Sailing Team, and 3rd at US Olympic Laser Trials.

Coach: Ben Glass

Ben Glass is Head Coach of the Seattle Yacht Club Racing Team and was recently recognized by US Sailing as the Developmental Coach of the Year for 2007. A product of Northwest Youth Racing himself, Ben is an accomplished skiff sailor and match racer who has coached at all levels of the sport from junior sailing programs to the US Olympic Team Trials.

2010 WIND Youth Clinic

"Creating Future Generations of Champions"

August 3-5, 2010

WIND is a comprehensive training clinic for young sailors ages 13-18. Coached by an accomplished staff of champion sailors, this immersion program will focus on performance sail trim, tactics and boat-handling in classroom and on-the-water sessions. Coaches will also familiarize sailors with the ins and outs of pursuing a National or Olympic campaign, including time management, money, travel and personal commitment.

Participation is open to Laser, Laser Radial, Laser 4.7, 420, Vanguard 15 and 29er sailors. Laser sailors may bring interchangeable rigs for different wind conditions. Charters are available. Participants must be members of either US Sailing or the Canadian Yachting Association, and must submit a sailing resume before the event. Coaches review all resumes and tailor the event to the ability of the participants. Meals and refreshments will be provided for the participants.

Please note: All youth sailors must be accompanied by a parent or chaperone.

Venue

The clinic is held in the Marine Park at Cascade Locks, Oregon, in the heart of the famous Columbia River Gorge. Cascade Locks presents a spectacular venue with steady winds, warm conditions, and plenty to do on and off the water. Families can enjoy hiking, biking, windsurfing, golf, or they can tour the towns in the area. Accommodations of all sorts are available, including camping within walking distance, or plenty of comfortable hotels. The Gorge is truly a great adventure for all.

Daily Schedule

Every day will begin at the beach. Sunscreen is a must!

0800-0830:	Calisthenics & stretching
0830-0930:	Rig and prepare for sailing
0930-1130:	On-the-water drills (coaches’ choice)
1130-1330:	Lunch & chalk talk on the beach
1330-1530:	On-the-water drills (coaches’ choice)
1530-1730:	Return to beach and unrig boats. Chalk talk on the beach.
1730-1830:	Move to dinner area, unwind.
1830:	Dinner at Marine Park. After dinner discussion & debrief.

Thursday’s session ends at 1600. Plan for dinner on your own with parents or chaperone (and prepare for NW Youth Circuit Regatta on Saturday & Sunday!)

To Register for the WIND Clinic, go to online registration. In addition to online registration, all applicants must complete and return the Registration/Application Form including resume, liability waiver, and medical release forms. Applications must be received by July 27, 2010.

Separate registration is required for the WIND NW Youth Circuit Regatta which will be held in conjunction with the 2010 Columbia Gorge One-Design Regatta (CGOD) August 7-8. To register for the regatta, visit online registration.

Charters:

Charter boats are available through West Coast Sailing. New charter boats (inc. spars and blades) are available for $150 per day or $550 for a 4-day package (come early, stay late for an extra day of fantastic Gorge sailing!). Some used charter boats may be available (inquire with George at West Coast Sailing if interested).

Cascade Locks is located in the heart of the beautiful Columbia River Gorge, 45 minutes east of Portland International Airport on Interstate 84. Cascade Locks and surrounding communities have a wide range of accommodations from camping to four-star resort hotels (see visitor information).
